Paris 2024 Olympics Plush Mascot: Frigidaire

The Mascot for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics is called Phryge, a red Phrygian cap. The design concept draws from the traditional Phrygian cap in French culture, and it was created by the Paris 2024 Olympic design team.

The prototype of the Phrygian cap is a symbol of freedom and has been a part of French history for centuries, dating back to ancient times. Originally seen on certain flags in Latin America, it later became widely adopted by French revolutionaries and is now a familiar symbol among the French.

As a symbol of revolution, the French Republic, and liberty, the Phrygian cap can be seen on the French coat of arms Marianne, as well as on half-body statues in town halls across the country and on postage stamps. It is also included in the national curriculum in schools.

Throughout French history, the Phrygian cap has been involved in significant events: records from the French National Archives show it was worn during the construction of Notre-Dame Cathedral in 1163, during the French Revolution in 1789, during the construction of the Eiffel Tower, and also during the 1924 Olympics.

The design concept of the mascots, which together form a triangular shape, anthropomorphizes the Phrygian cap. The earflaps of the cap are transformed into small hands, with the pointed end of the cap bending forward to form a forehead, and large, adorable eyes. The design incorporates the three colors of the French flag:

• The outer part of the mascots is red, while the inner part is blue, with the Olympic emblem on the chest against a white background.
• The legs of the mascots are blue for the Olympic mascot and white for the Paralympic mascot.
• Both mascots' eyes are composed of blue, white, and red (iris, sclera, and outline), with two tri-colored streamers on each side.

The Olympic mascot wears white athletic shoes with tri-colored laces and soles, while the Paralympic mascot has a red shoe on one foot and a black running shoe on the other.

The Olympic character is petite with mischievous eyes and a smiling mouth, while the Paralympic character is robust and composed, both representing a non-binary identity.
