The story of the Teddy Bear

Margaret Stef was born in the small town of Giengen in southern Germany in 1847. At the age of one and a half, she was stricken with polio, which condemned her to spend her life in a wheelchair. However, this lively and optimistic little girl did not stop her, and she founded her own flannelette clothing store in 1879.

In December 1879, in a magazine called Modewelt, Margrethe found a version of a toy elephant. She tried to make some to give to friends. It was well received, and gradually in 1883 she developed a small collection of stuffed animals, which were added to the original clothing exhibit catalogue. Steiff was officially registered on March 3, 1893, with a turnover of DM 40,000 and a working partner of four. In 1897, with the assistance of her brother (Fritz), the number of employees increased to 10 and the annual turnover increased to DM 90,000.

In 1894, Steiff entered the exhibition, but Fritz's son Rihard joined Steiff, and Steiff started a new page, based on his sketches in the Stuggart Zoo, he designed the head of the bear and monkey, with these new products, he went to the American Lipzik Exhibition, at first there was little interest. Towards the end of the exhibition, a buyer from the United States, Hermann Berg, represented GeoBorg fledt&Co. The company, interested in the innovative product, placed an order for 2,000 on the spot, but sadly, the historic Teddy Bears could no longer be found.

In 1902, due to an interesting story of President Roosevelt of the United States, the fuzzy Teddy bear had a real name, "Teddy bear", which made the Steiff bears craze swept across the United States soon, but also to the world.
